Peat Bath

Peat is formed from organic materials and extracted from specific bogs around the world. It is high in vitamins, minerals and other substances, all of which have high biological activity.

Why does it work?

Microspores inside the structure of peat allow high efficiency temperature retention. This means it has the ability to keep the water at a consistently warm temperature. The increased heat along with the peat content allows for anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant effects. It can also reduce pain, elevate protein synthesis and increase circulation.

Peat may be beneficial for many conditions, including musculoskeletal conditions, skin conditions, gynecological conditions, benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) / prostatitis, viral infections, immune stimulation, chronic headaches, insomnia, stress relief, etc.

Treatment schedules vary, but patients typically see long-lasting effects after 6 treatments.

What to expect

Your appointment will take place in the peat bath rooms within our hydrotherapy suite. Each private room is equipped with a large bathtub which is filled with hot water and the peat.  You will be accompanied during this appointment, as heat can leave some feeling light headed after being in the tub for approximately 15-20 minutes, depending on comfort level. Once out of the peat bath, you will be wrapped in a blanket and will remain in the hydro room lying down for 20-30 minutes.

Please bring your bathing suit as the more skin is exposed to the peat, the greater the benefit. Also bring water or a water container as you will likely be sweating during the treatment.
